D'après l'ouvrage de Bob Zellner, The Wrong Side of Murder Creek: A White Southerner in the Freedom Movement. Montgomery, Alabama. Un petit-fils d'un membre du Ku Klux Klan, influencé par la pensée du révérend Martin Luther King Jr. et de Rosa Parks, s'invite dans le combat pour les droits civiques aux Etats-Unis en 1961.
